"When you’re interested, you do what is convenient. When you’re committed, you do whatever it takes."
This speaks LOUDLY to me.
This quote helped me realize what I'm simply interested in and what I'm really committed to. That is huge. Knowing the difference alone has put things in a completely different perspective.
ASK YOURSELF: What do you make sure you have the time, money, and effort for?
Say you have a list of "wants" {we all do}. You know, those things you want to do, see, or be. Now, let's say you have a finite amount of resources. Where will you allocate your resources first? Most of us have a prioritized list of wants, whether we are fully aware of it or not.
For example, you want to be a personal trainer, a professional photographer, and continue your education. Don't forget the new car you want to buy. Now, you work a job and get a paycheck every other week. You, of course, divide the money up into all the household bills and expenses. Then you have a tiny bit left over {if you're lucky} that you can put towards your list of wants. This doesn't necessarily mean you want one thing and not the other, just that you will work harder for some of the things on your list and you find some of them more urgent to your current situation in life. Let's say in this example, they take the little left over and put half into their car savings and the rest helps them with building their photography business. Those are the things this person is committed to. The other wants on their list are what they're interested in. Those things are still important, just not the move mountains type of important.
What are you committed to? What are you interested in?
I'm Committed to my personal fitness, because even when I don't have the time I'll fit something in. I workout when I'm at work. I go to stadiums when I don't feel like it and it's 107 degrees out. I go to the gym when I don't want to. The only thing that's stopped me before was school. That comes back to priorities. At that time, my education was higher than my fitness. Not that I pushed it out completely, just that I took care of it afterwards, when it was a little more convenient. I was more committed to my education then.
Priorities are DYNAMIC. They can shift and change to adapt to where you are in life and the situations you find yourself in. Sometimes, they switch up because you forced a change. You had a realization of where things were ranking on your list and you felt the need to re-order your list and commit yourself to something else.
What are some of the things on your list? Have they changed over the past few months? How about since last year? How have they changed? Have you ever realized something you thought was at the top actually wasn't?
