It's almost time for graduation in some parts of the world, specifically mine. About a year ago I had graduated with my bachelors in psychology. It was one of the best days I've had. It felt great to finally get there, finish with that part of life. Reach that point that I couldn't grasp actually happening until it did. I worked hard.
However, no matter how hard I worked, it was easy. Easy because I knew where I was headed. I knew what I had to do next. I knew all the steps to take.
So, around this time a year ago, I started to stress out. I started asking myself a lot of questions. I started feeling sad. I started worrying. Quite plainly, I started to freak out.
The thing is, for some reason, we always have to be working towards something instead of just working at something. Sure, we want to strive, progress, learn, and grow. But can't we do that without focusing on a set destination? What if we enjoyed the journey more? When it comes to fitness and learning, what if we treated it more as a lifestyle? If we did then maybe the process would be more enjoying, maybe when you've reached some point or destination then you wouldn't just drop everything and quit working at it. Maybe you'd be happier sooner. Why do we do what we do anyway? We want to go to school for some job that pays this much while still letting us do something we like {mostly}, so that we can be happy and what? That's it?
I'm not saying to drop the idea of going to school, if that's in your plan then go for it. It definitely was {still is} in mine! All I'm trying to point out is that maybe we need to focus a little less on getting there right now. If you do, then it's way too easy to feel a little overwhelmed, depressed, and confused later.
While heading down your path, whatever it may be, try to give the process a little more attention than the finish line.
Maybe I'm just talking crazy-talk. Regardless, here's a video I dug up from when I watched it around my graduation date.
